Abstract.

The present study of safety of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) as a neuroprotector involved 9 adult patients with unilateral ischemic stroke in the carotid region presenting within 48 hours of onset. All patients received subcutaneous G-CSF injections in the dose of 10 mkg/kg. Safety was evaluated by mortality, frequency of hemorrhagic transformation of infarction and adverse events. G-CSF injections significantly increased the level of CD34-positive cells in peripheral blood.

At 90 days positive dynamics in the need for third-party assistance and in other studied characteristics was shown. Single daily bone marrow stimulation by G-CSF in the dose of 10 mkg/kg is appeared to be safe.
