Abstract.
In order to determine the non-specific toxic effect of alloxan, a morphological study of pancreas, liver, thymus and spleen in rats, after intraperitoneal administration of its 30 mg/100g dose was carried out. The known affinity of alloxan at its early introduction to pancreas β-cells, where in contrast to other examined organs, degenerative-destructive processes are detected, was verified. At later term, (30 days after alloxan introduction) the destructive processes, observed in pancreas, liver and organs of immune system may as well be regarded as secondary, conditioned by persistent hyperglycemia, favoring protein glycolysation and microangiopathy development.
Key words:
alloxan, toxic action, pancreas, thymus, spleen.
