Abstract.

The study was aimed at clinical and morphological evaluation of class C1 chronic venous diseases (CVD). Ninety three patients (146 lower extremities) were clinically examined (mean age 40.05±6.33 years), most of them women (98.9%). Twenty five patients (26.5%) underwent ultrasound angioscanning (USAS) of lower extremity veins. The outcome of combined treatment was assessed using a questionnaire similar to CIVIQ2. Morphological examination of the skin and parts of saphenous veins taken from 13 female cadavers (25–54 years) was conducted using hematoxylin-eosin and picrofuchsin staining according to van Gieson and Weigert. Morphometric study was performed using the Video Test Morphology 5.2 software. Statistical analysis was conducted with the Biostat 2008 program.
More than half of the patients with class C1 CVD were found to have various subjective clinical symptoms. USAS revealed some signs of abnormal changes in major veins of lower extremities. Morphological similarity of structural alterations in the walls of saphenous veins and in the dermis was found. Combined treatment in the settings of an outpatient phlebology center provided good immediate results in 80% of cases.

Key words:
