Abstract.

On the basis of the review of the literature and own data the estimation of a modern condition and prospects of development of regenerative biology and medicine is spent. In article the basic concepts and definitions of this scientific direction, classification and the characteristic of stem cells, examples of clinical use of various types of stem cells are given. It is shown, that experimental and clinical researches of stem cells have essentially enriched our representations about mechanisms histogenesis, differentiations and reparations, have allowed to create new biotechnologies and ways of treatment.
