Abstract: The spirometric examination of 20 mail military aged from 21 to 36 years located on Franz Josef Land (80004’ n, 47005’ e) was carried out during polar day and polar night. In this contrast seasons we analyzed the contents of exhaled air and oxygen saturation. Efficiency of respiratory and cardiac cycle and diffusion capacity are found to be reduced during the polar night compared to polar day on background of intense activity of external respiration. Such oxygen contents in the exhaled air is reduced with 5,6% (p= 0,006), oxygen consumption increase with 46,2% and oxygen effect in respiratory and cardiac cycle increases respectively. This changes can represent the factors of pulmonary risk.

Key words: Arctic, military, polar night, polar day, pulmonary gas exchange.
