Lactoferrin in the Oral Fluid of Patients with Herpes Virus Infection

Abstract. The oral lactoferrin is one of the important components of the secretory immune system. Determination of lactoferrin may be clinically useful for immune-pathology. Our data showed a marked impairment of the secretory immune system in patients with viral lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region. In particular herpetic ganglionitis level of lactoferrin was significantly higher than that of herpetic stomatitis. This pattern is associated with clinical features of different forms of herpes infection.
