Abstract.

The ability of clinical strains of coagulase-negative staphylococci to form biofilm was studied. The bacterial growth on Congo red agar, the ability to the hemagglutination, the cell surface hydrophobicity were characterized. The biofilm intensity depends on the nutrient medium and the Na+ ions presence. The peptide antibacterial compounds such as lysostaphin and cationic low molecular weight peptide warnerin, also the hydrolytic enzyme proteinase K destroyed the mature biofilm of coagulase-negative staphylococci.

Keywords:

coagulase-negative staphylococci, biofilm, cationic peptides
