Abstract. The adverse effect on the body of a number of factors of the external and internal environment contributes to the formation of free radicals (SR). An increase in the content of the latter can lead to a number of serious diseases, such as: bronchial asthma, diabetes mellitus, oncological diseases, premature aging of the body, etc. This will significantly increase the level of disability, and sometimes even mortality among the population. In this connection, the prevention of these pathologies is an urgent task of modern society. As an effective preventive means, we can recommend the antioxidant molecules (AO), which will be discussed in this article. The issues characterizing AO as biologically significant molecules are considered. The article presents: the concept of AO, their properties, mechanism of action, classification and functions; describes the areas of application and ways of influencing AO on the body. It is shown that AO, along with proteins, fats, carbohydrates, should be an integral part of the diet. The body needs a constant supply of AO, in order to maintain a balance between the interaction of the internal and external environment.
