Abstract

Childhood obesity is associated with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), which develops, among other things, as a result of metabolic disorders (arterial hypertension, insulin resistance), the leading role in the development of which is currently attributed to metabolic inflammation. The aim of the study is to identify the features of the immune status in adolescents with obesity and left ventricular hypertrophy. Methods. 78 adolescents with a diagnosis of obesity were examined. The comparison group consisted of 18 adolescents without obesity. All adolescents had their blood activated T-lymphocytes (CD3+CD25+ and CD3+HLA-DR+) and cytokine levels: IL-1н╡, IL-2, IL-6, TNFн╠, IFNнЁ, MCP-1. All obese patients were divided into 2 groups: a group of obese adolescents without LVH (58 people) and a group of obese adolescents with LVH (20 people). Results. In the group of adolescents with obesity and LVH, a decrease in CD3+CD25+ and CD3+HLA-DR+ was observed, both in comparison with the control group and with the group of adolescents with obesity without LVH. In addition, the level of cytokines IL-1н╡, IL-2, IL-6, TNFн╠, IFNнЁ, and MCP-1 was higher in adolescents with obesity than in the comparison group. It was also found that adolescents with obesity and LVH have lower levels of IL-2 and TNFн╠, and higher levels of IL-6 and MCP-1, compared to adolescents with obesity without LVH. Conclusions. Adolescents with obesity and LVH have a decrease in CD3+CD25+ and CD3+HLA-DR+ content, as well as a decrease in IL-2 and TNFн╠ levels, with a more pronounced increase in IL-6 and MCP-1 compared to adolescents with obesity without LVH.
