Hormonal Regulation of Thymocytes Apoptosis and Prolipheration

Abstract. The influence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), estriol (E3), leptin and ghrelin in concentrations corresponding with their levels in the peripheral blood during pregnancy on apoptosis and proliferation of thymocytes was studied. It was found that all of the hormones had significantly antiapoptotic effects in the dexamethasone-induced model of thymocyte apoptosis. Leptin and hCG dose-dependently stimulated thymocyte proliferation, whereas E3 and ghrelin reduced it. Thus, hCG, E3, leptin and ghrelin are important regulators of thymic stages of T lymphocytes differentiation at pregnancy.
