Abstract. The serum in two indigenous women and immigrant women groups was investigated from Tazovskoje (Russia). Hormonal status, lipid profile and relative microviscosity of erythrocyte membranes were measured. It was shown the increase of insulin concentrations in both groups, and significant decrease of thyroxin at indigenous women only. The increase of the membranes microviscosity in indigenous women aged 20-29 years was higher than immigrant women. The membranes microviscosity, concentrations of very low density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, intermediate density lipoprotein, total cholesterol and serum triglycerides were increased with age in both groups. We assume that the increase of insulin levels, membranes microviscosity and concentration of atherogenic lipoprotein fractions can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes among residents of the North. The reason of the latter may be connected with the transition from the traditional protein-lipid diet to carbohydrate.
Keywords: hormonal status, lipid profile, erythrocyte membrane microviscosity, North women.
