Abstract. Background. One of the causes of decompensation of chronic heart failure is underestimation of the clinical picture of the stagnant phenomena of one or the other circulation, hence the underestimation of the stage resulting in inadequate therapy. Purpose of research. The paper aims at studying new approaches in the detection of congestions in small and large circles of blood circulation by instrumental methods. Results. The paper presents a modern view on the problem of diagnosing chronic heart failure severity, exposed clinically as a stage based on symptoms and signs of congestions in small and/or large circles of blood circulation. Instrumental methods of diagnostics of stagnant phenomena are considered. Summary. Echocardiography allows one to identify stagnant phenomena in small and large circles of blood circulation in the early stages of chronic heart failure before the emergence of a significant clinical picture and to prescribe timely adequate therapy, which can significantly reduce the number of decompensation cases.
