Morphology of Hippocampus in Outbred White Rats in Postnatal Ontogenesis

Abstract. Aim. To study the age peculiarities of morphology of nonlinear white rats’ hippocampus in the postnatal ontogenesis. Materials and methods. Histological investigation of hippocampuses of 30 intact white rats aged 14 days to 3 years was performed. Results. In early postnatal ontogenesis of nonlinear white rat the activation of synthetic processes in pyramidal hippocampal neurons is observed. Old animals have the signs of neural tissue degeneration. It was detected by means of morphometric investigations that neuron sizes in hippocampus fields CA1, CA2, CA3 are subjected to statistically significant changes — in old animals the investigated parameters were reliably less than in the other age groups or comparable with those in 14-day-old animals.
