Abstract. Cell surface hydrophobicity index in freshly isolated strains of P. aeruginosa did not exceed 30 %. Poor link was observed between hydrophobicity and biofilm biomass indices with its decline under long culture storage. In addition, bacterial cells tended to be more hydrophobic (p = 0,0091), and the parameters of non-specific adhesion to both hydrophilic (р = 0,0089) and hydrophobic (р = 0,0031) surfaces, biofilm-forming ability (р = 0,0064) were statistically significantly lowered. Bacterial adhesion capability relatively to erythrocytes did not markedly differ under the temperature regimens of 37 °C and 25 °C, however this was statistically significant between the groups. It is shown that the biomass of a biofilm formed by strains at 20 °C, above than at 37 °C (р = 0,0003). The alteration of cell surface hydrophobicity, as well as adhesion and biofilm-forming ability as a result of changes in growth temperature and after the storage can evidence for great adaptation potential of P. aeruginosa in different habitats that provide its rapid transition from planktonic to sessile form.
