Abstract. The Quality of life is the most important social category and the ultimate criterion of the effectiveness of the ongoing socio-economic policy. This is especially important for the population living in extreme climatic and geographical conditions of the Arctic zone. Purpose. Тo assess the quality of life of the population of the Arctic territories of the Arkhangelsk region. Materials and methods. A sociological study of the quality of life was conducted by questioning. 850 inhabitants of the Arctic territories of the Arkhangelsk region were surveyed. Used a standardized WHO questionnaire for assessing the quality of life (a short version of the WHOQOL-BREF). Statistical data was processed using the SPSS application package ver. 13, for quantitative variables a simple arithmetic average, 95% confidence interval (CI) simple simple arithmetic method Fisher. To compare estimates of quality of life between categories of population, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis criteria (for three or more samples) were used. Differences were considered reliable if the probability of type 1 error was less than 5% (p<0.05). Results. The average arithmetic integral assessment of all domains (spheres) of the quality of life of the population of the Arctic territories of the Arkhangelsk region was 89.2 points (68.6% of the maximum possible). The lowest grade was given to the sphere of quality of life, which characterizes the social well-being of the population — 25.6 points (64.0% of the maximum possible). The highest is the sphere of micro-social support (73.6% of the maximum possible). Significant differences in the assessment of the sphere of social well-being of men and women and the sphere of physical and psychological well-being of urban and rural residents are revealed. Conclusions. The WHO Questionnaire is an effective tool for the subjective assessment of a person’s physical and psychological well-being, self-perception, micro-social support and social well-being. The questionnaire allows you to establish negative factors that reduce the quality of life and to develop measures to improve the quality of life of the population, in order to increase interest in living in the Arctic territories of the region.
