Abstract. Studying the state of the immune system may make it possible to develop pathogenetically sound measures for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases of the upper respiratory tract. Goal. To study the serum levels of certain cytokines (IL-10, IFNy) and other indicators characterizing the immune response (IgA, VEGF) in children with chronic adenoiditis and to evaluate the effectiveness of inclusion in the rehabilitation program in the postoperative period of dietary supplements (B. longum MS-42). Materials and methods. At the first stage, 100 preschool children with a diagnosis of J35.9 were examined. The patients were divided into two groups depending on the severity of the disease and the phase of the course. All patients underwent blood sampling to determine serum levels of IL-10, IFNy, IgA, and VEGF. The second stage involved 100 children of the same age. All children underwent surgical treatment in the amount of adenoidectomy; in group 2, along with the surgical treatment, the children received nasopharyngeal irrigation with a probiotic solution for 30 days. The levels of IL-10, IFNy, IgA, and VEGF were determined in all patients before and 30 days after the start of therapy. Results and conclusion. Preschool children with chronic nasopharyngeal inflammation experience intense immune system activity due to high production of IgA and IFN-γ and higher concentrations of IL-10 and VEGF in patients with severe obstruction. Against the background of the treatment, in the group of children who underwent surgical treatment followed by pharyngeal probiotic irrigation, an increase in IFN-γ content was recorded in combination with a decrease in IL-10, which can be interpreted as activation of the body's natural forces in response to therapeutic measures. A decrease in VEGF indicates an inhibition of tonsillar hypertrophy. The addition of probiotics to food can offset the lack of immune response caused by surgery.
