Special Aspects of Serum Cholesterol Fractions and Saturated Fatty Acids in Children and Adolescents Living in Arkhangelsk Region Depending on Age

Abstract.

We examined 512 children and adolescents of the Arkhangelsk Region aged from 10 to 21 years. There were identified in the blood serum cholesterol fractions, indicators of lipid-transport system, saturated fatty acids (SFA). It has been established that children and adolescents with age had an increased activity of cholesterol esterification processes and high-density lipoprotein, which were accompanied by a decrease of levels of free cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, atherogenic coefficient (AC) and the SFA. Thus, in all age groups the contents of esterified cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, AC and SFA values were shifted towards higher values, and levels of free cholesterol and high density lipoprotein — towards lower values.
