Abstract. In animal model has been shown that in the early stages of diabetes retinal damage are developed and manifested in the loss of the integrity of the pigment cells and blood vessels of the retina and the choroid, which are main structures of the blood-retinal barrier. There is a progression of degenerative processes in these tissues with increasing duration of diabetes.
Keywords: diabetes, retina, blood-retinal barrier
