Abstract. According to results of analysis of causes of deaths, significant excess mortality due to infection associated cancers (stomach, liver and cervical cancers) and non-cancer deceases of infectious etiology was observed in population of East-Ural Radioactive Trace. Excess mortality due to cancer and non-cancer diseases can be associated with irradiation of bone marrow due to Sr-90 incorporated in bone tissue. The irradiation damages hematopoiesis and suppresses the immune response. Secondary immune deficiency induced by chronic radiation increases susceptibility to the bacterial and viral infections.
