Abstract. Goal. Analyze the scientific biography and activities of the doctor of medical sciences, professor, academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, head of the Department of Hospital Surgery Perm Medical University. Acad. E. A. Wagner Vladimir Aristarkhovich Cherkasov V. A. Methods. Theses, author's abstracts of dissertations, monographs and a number of articles of prof. V.A. Cherkasov and his students. Materials of central, local and departmental archives were studied. A number of information was obtained by interviewing. Results. V. A. Cherkasov passed all levels of medical administrative work from the hospital to the rector major of the University. With his participation in Perm is introduced active surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, these materials were defended his thesis «the Experience of surgical treatment tuberculum light» under the leadership of Professor E. A. Wagner and prof L. M. Shulutko. He was the organizer of the departments of thoracic and vascular surgery at the Regional clinical hospital. As the chief surgeon operated in many parts of the region. The head of the Department of Phthisiopulmonology V. A. Cherkasov personally and his students developed the problem of surgical treatment and intensive therapy of pulmonary tuberculosis (Intrapleural introduction of medicinal substances, intravenous laser irradiation of blood, early surgery using laser and plasma scalpel). On the basis of medical organizations in correctional labor institutions studied features of the disease, treatment and rehabilitation of socially-disadvantaged groups. V. A. Cherkasov weekly went for operations, give lectures and surgical training in Moravskou interregional tuberculosis hospital. According to the materials of these works were defended his doctoral dissertation «the Features and effectiveness of surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis among the disadvantaged clinical and social patients» in 1993. Continued work on implementation of minimally invasive operations: thoracoscopy in empyema of the pleura and chest injury, videoaccess codec with suppurative lung diseases. To restore the immune status in patients with tuberculosis and cancer were successfully applied lymphotropic therapy. In the field of abdominal surgery was disclosed the relationship between generalized intestinal dysbiosis and bacteriuria. Comorbidity was revealed by the study of the relationship changes of the liver, cholelithiasis and kidney pathology. Was justified by an absolute necessity of antibacterial therapy in necrotizing pancreatitis (with sterile — preventive, when the infected — therapeutic) and the crucial role of timely and adequate surgery (especially minimally invasive interventions, reducing surgical aggression). In a number of papers have studied problems of intensive therapy, such as treatment of rhabdomyolysis, diffuse peritonitis, cerebrovascular disorders and arrhythmias. In the position of the rector (1994 – 2005) in the difficult context of a systemic crisis managed to maintain the infrastructure of educational and research activities of the University. Along with the traditional areas continued development of higher nursing education, training of foreign students. In the scientific activities implemented modern information, communication and publishing technology. Activity of the doctor of medical Sciences, Professor, head of Department of surgery hospital of Vladimir Aristarkhovich Cherkasov was aimed at preserving the achievements of the scientific school of academician E. A. Wagner. Was continued a number of areas: study of chest trauma, fisierele, emergency surgery diseases of the organs of the abdomen, cholelithiasis. Was solved a number of issues microbiological and immunological plans at a modern technological level. In rector V. A. Cherkasov managed to maintain academic, scientific and organizational capacity of the University.
