Abstract. 87 students from the Northern (Arctic) Federal University with medium and low levels of search activity was conducted psychophysiological assessment of behavioral responses in stochastic and deterministic environments. The behavioral response of students with low search activity is characterized by randomness and lack of expression of their stereotypes in a free environment. Qualitative indicators of response in a deterministic environment indicate about lower functionality of the central nervous system in a changing situational afferentation compared with students having an average level of search activity.
Results of the research suggest a deterioration in the performance of the main units of the functional system of behavioral response of students with low level of search activity, that may in the future have adversely affect the formation of their optimal strategies of adaptive behavior in the North.

Keywords: Psychophysiology, search activity, behavioral response, free choice, controled choice, students, North.
