Abstract.
In recent years, a significant role of serotonin is defined in the development of immune processes in a wide range of bacterial, protozoal and viral infections. Through the corresponding cell receptors serotonin regulates the immune system cell migration, proliferation, phagocytosis, the generation of superoxide anions, cytokine production, cytotoxic effects, provides associated complications such as chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, etc. This study shows the regulatory role of serotonin in the immune system on the example of the formation of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B and C patients. It was found that the primary mechanism for such regulation is not only serum serotonin and serotonin, which is composed of CD16+CD56+ cells (natural killer cells).
