Abstract. Older people with a decrease in activity of peripheral blood phagocytes retained a sufficiently high level in the phagocytic defense secretions and excretions of inflammatory exudates. Levels of natural killer cells with age is not reduced, and has a clear tendency to increase. Increased blood concentrations of mucin glycoproteins type with increasing age may be due to the need for more effective protection of the surface epithelium of the mucous membranes, providing by enhancing epithelial barrier function of nonspecific local reactions and adaptive immunity .
